Wrote perl code to tie together inadequately specified components of online shopping system for Inktomi's commerce division. Wrote perl and Java code to monitor the proper behavior of the components of the online shopping system. Wrote log processing system to profile usage and identify outages within the online shopping system. Set up monitoring for common network services. (DNS, DHCP, reachability, etc.) Designed and implemented network performance data collection system using cricket and a good deal of custom perl code. Designed and implemented network traffic collection and presentation system for corporate gateway networks and new production networks. This used flow export data from Cisco and Juniper devices. This data was collected with cflowd and processed using a heavily customized version of flowscan. Built a jumpstart server for producing secured hosts.

Maintained monitoring systems. Designed and deployed OSPF routing for entire corporation. Set up jumpstart server to produce secured hosts. Designed DNS and DHCP architectures. Deployed and managed DNS and DHCP servers. This included three external primarys, a shadow master, and five internal primaries along with BIND-MS DNS integration. Wrote configuration system to generate (and push) all named.conf files. All zone definitions, transfer ACLs, and zone characteristics were managed from a central configuration file. All updates were handled using a single command. Managed checkpoint firewalls and advised on policies. Acted as security liaison between IT and development groups. Wept as development ignored our recommendations. Used Nessus to produce surveys of hosts and gain rough ideas of internal and external vulnerabilities. Managed core service migrations from IRIX to Solaris. Negotiated corporate red tape to make bulk hardware purchase at fire sale prices. Automated software deployments. Acted as senior admin for network issues (e.g. isolating reachability issues due to bugs in Alcatel's spanning tree implementation.)

(self proclaimed) Primary network trouble shooting person. Handled UNIX and NT integration issues. Did evil things with printers. Moved DHCP from NT to ISC DHCP servers running on Solaris. SAMBA deployment and primary SAMBA admin. Deployed SSH on all hosts. LDAP deployment and management using Netscape LDAP servers. Served as secondary and then primary DNS admin. Served as one half the group which selected, tested, and designed the corporations second generation firewalls. Deployed centrally managed Checkpoint Firewall-1 installation. This included six enforcement points on three continents and one management station. Deployed legato Networker at remote offices, and acted as secondary backup manager. Acted as secondary security officer (a real FTE was needed) and handled 'proof of vulnerability' demonstrations.
